Football Kenya Federation’s Electoral Board chairman, Prof. Edwin Wamukoya has on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, given an update on the electoral process that saw the board conclude county nominations on Saturday last week.
The board has cleared aspirants from 19 counties, with 26 more counties set to be cleared in the course of the day.
“We have cleared aspirants from 19 counties and will be clearing 26 more in the course of the day. Of the 26, 10 are unopposed. The remaining 16 have issues concerning their endorsements. They thus have until 5 pm today to clear the issues before we publish the list,” said Board Chairman Prof. Edwin Wamukoya.
“We did not receive nominations from Tana River and Lamu counties, where there were no active leagues as is required by the Electoral Code. We had an aspirant from Samburu, but the clubs in the region did not participate in active leagues in 2017 and 2018 as is required by the code,” he added.
The Board, meanwhile, received nomination papers from aspirants seeking elective positions in the National Executive Committee on Tuesday. Presidential aspirants are, in the meantime, expected to appear before the board on Wednesday.
There will be a three-day window, between October 24 and October 26, 2019, in which disputes submitted to the board will be heard. Aspirants and Candidates who do not get recourse from the Board can further lodge their appeals to the Appeals Committee between October 28, and October 30, 2019.
The final list of candidates at both the County and National level will thereafter be published on November 2, 2019, ahead of the polls.
